There was a bang on the door. “Are you alright Katy?” asked Maggie, the truck stop owner’s wife. “Yeees. Yes, I am Maggie; I am just here with Brian. Sorry about the noise,” Kate said with a husky voice. Maggie smiled as she walked away knowingly, these young people they do know how to fuck.

  Chapter 12

Kate and Brian had a very quick court wedding and used the staff members at the county office as witnesses. After the marriage, Brian took Kate to the apartment he rented for them. It was in a nice neighborhood. When they got inside it was already lavishly furnished. “It’s so beautiful and ... gosh it looks expensive too, “Kate said. “ That’s fine, its only money,” said Brian.

“I’ll have to take care of our expenses from now on. You are just way too extravagant;” said Kate.

“Even the best isn’t good enough for you my Kate...but, whatever you say beautiful one, I’ll go with.” Brain replied.

Kate came closer and kissed him on the mouth and then hugged him” Everything will be perfect as soon as you tell your family...I kind of feel funny about it,”, said Kate. “Just give me a little more time. Let me do this my own way. I promise you we will be very happy, and everything will work out fine,” said Brian with a comforting smile on his face.

Kate and Brian had a very good marriage. They lived together with Brian eliminating his overnight trips and only picking trips that would have him back in the apartment the same day. The only concern that Kate had was not meeting Brian’s family or them knowing about her or even their marriage. Kate had agreed in the beginning not to be concerned about that, but it kept on eating into her. The little while has now stretched out and become a long while.

Kate tried to be patient. She continued to work at the truck stop and then one day it seemed her almost perfect marriage was going to fall apart. One night Brian did not come home. It wasn’t unusual because sometimes he would run late and come back early in the morning. However, as Kate was getting ready to go to the truck stop, he was not yet back. She looked at her smart phone. No, missed calls or messages, She checked her email and text messages; nothing new. She was a bit concerned but not alarmed. She went to work.

By mid morning, as she was clearing out the tables she overheard two men talking “SERV got hit again last night, eh? “Yeah! Truck is stolen again! Some record they are creating,” said the second man.

“I can bet my right testicle on this! There is definitely someone planted in their outfit that is giving these thieves’ their schedules and routes to grab their trucks. The way things are going for them, nobody would want to use them to transport their cargo anymore,” said the first guy.

“Sure bet it’s an inside job...what are you talking about balls...you don’t have any balls,” said his companion. They both chuckled.

Kate overheard all that. She just did not want to believe that Brian could be caught up in any of this. Her mind quickly flashed to the expensive car he took her on the first date with, the expensive restaurants and the expensive apartment they are renting...he is renting. She shouldn’t be thinking such crazy thoughts. Somebody spying against SERV...tipping off thieves! B – But it couldn’t be...oh, No...”Could I have some coffee here Kate,” a voice said. It was a familiar voice. Kate immediately spun around.

“Brian!!!” The way her face lit up and how happy her face changed from worry to relief and happiness, you would have thought she had just won a million dollars. As Kate was grabbing a pot of coffee to go over to where Brian was sitting she overheard the two men again. “That’s the new SERV driver. I wonder where he’s from,” the first guy whispered. “Yeah... maybe he knows the owner of RETEX trucking, ehhh?” the second guy trailed off. Kate heard it all. Oh no! Please God, don’t let it be Brian! It can’t be. It mustn’t be.” She thought to herself.

Kate hid her terror from Brian. She carried on as if nothing had happened, and he didn’t say anything apart from that he had been late the night before because of some delays. She strongly believed him because of the love they have for each other, he would tell her if there was anything to tell.

As they were in each other’s arms at home two days later...”Honey, I’ll have to work tonight!” said Brian.” “Sweetie, its Saturday, you don’t work on Saturdays!”said Kate really surprised by the comment.

“It’s a special job today. I’ll probably be back late. Now wipe that concerned look off your face.”

Kate then said “Well, if you must go and leave me here all alone...just be careful. Will you be home for breakfast?” “I’ll try to make it sweetheart. You never know...these things might get complicated; delays here and there, but I’ll do my best, love you!” shouted Brian as he headed for the door.

  Chapter 13

As soon as Brian left, Kate burst into tears. Brain, the man I love...might be a spy... common thief...what in the name of fuck can she do. All night Kate stayed awake waiting for him, hoping to hear the sound of his car pulling up or the sound of his key in the door. She slept fitfully. In the morning, there was no sign of him. She checked her phone. Nothing! No messages; text or email. She made herself a cup of coffee, and since she didn’t want to eat breakfast alone decided to get the morning paper outside the door.

The headlines were blaring... “5 Caught In Cargo Truck Heist”...Kate gasped. Oh my God, My darling Brian. She read further, ...5 men, now being held at the Police Headquarters, were caught after they hijacked a cargo truck belonging to SERV Trucking...she dropped the news paper and started sobbing. Her mind was in a mess. She finally deiced that she cannot just abandon the man she loves. Kate can’t remember anything, but, somehow she got dressed, got in the car, and the next thing she knew, she was right there in front of the police headquarters. There were a lot of activities going on with the press all around. As Kate climbed the stairs leading up to the door... “What do they do with people when they are arrested? Do they put them in jail...or set them free? Maybe I can bail him;” Kate wondered.

As Kate was looking for anybody to talk to she saw a familiar face... “Kate! What are you doing here?” it was Brian.

“Brian! Oh sweetheart, I don’t care what you’ve done! I love you; Brian...I’ll stand by you. We can hire the best lawyers and get you out of this! I read about it in the newspaper,” said Kate all at once as she started to cry.

Brian grabbed her hands and hugged her. “Sweet heart, don’t cry...I haven’t done anything except trying to save my company from certain destruction,” said Brian. “You’re, not in police custody? You were not arrested. Oh Brian, I knew you weren’t one of those awful thieves! I just knew you’ll do the right thing on the job,” said Kate with relief in her voice.

“You mean you didn’t read the whole story. It’s all there in the newspaper. Oh Kate, I own SERV Trucking. I had to pose as a truck driver to get the information I needed...,” said Brian

“What!” Kate said. Brian continued “I even had to tell you a little white lie about my family, especially about my father. Really sorry I had to that... I didn’t want people to come around asking questions and blowing my cover, said Brian.

“You’ll have to explain that white lie later. Right now I’m just so glad that you are fine. I love you so much,” Said Kate.

“How would you like to go on a belated honeymoon? I hope you say yes...and thanks so much for having so much faith in me!” said Brian as he hugged Kate and held her tightly in his arms.
